Pre Construction Society - JCT 2005, the new suite of JCT contracts
Monday, November 06, 2006
The Cricketers Club was packed with PCS members and guests for our first meeting of the academic year, in the expectation of an informative talk on this important and very topical subject. None of us were disappointed by what was an excellent, lucid, precise and interesting presentation.
Ron set out to give an overview of the suite of contracts, outline the new ways design and third party rights are covered and other principle changes, and an idea of the likely common amendments. This covered the Standard Form, Design and Build, Intermediate, Minor Works and Major Projects forms; all in one evening! The changes with respect to design responsibilities now being transferred to Contractors on most contracts were of particular interest, as was the integration of third party rights into contracts rather than the proliferation of bespoke warranties that have been used up until now.
The presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session and a vote of thanks from CIOB vice president Keith Pickavance.
The Pre Construction Society holds regular meetings in London related to the pre construction professions including estimating, planning, design management and procurements. We also have an active student section. Past events have included talks on Supply Chain Management, Value Engineering, Whole Life Costing and Risk Management. Events for this autumn include:
Communication through the use of interactive media
Piling – traditional and contemporary methods
Christmas dinner at The Palace of Westminster
We are also planning to repeat the highly successful Pre Construction Careers Forum and the course of estimating lectures.
